We were having a pre-party the day before my friend’s wedding. On the way to the venue we saw that there was a huge accident in Wellington road, everybody was concerned but forgot about it when the party started.
All the guys laughed at me for not drinking, but hey, I don’t care…
That night after dropping them off at Saasveld and on my way home I turned into Wellington road and got pulled over. After the officer was reassured that I was more than sober I pulled off the road as I recognized one of the officers. A few minutes went by when a bakkie with 3 people were pulled over, the driver who left his home to fetch his wasted friends was over the limit and he was arrested for driving over the limit and under the influence.
The guy was 19 at the time and a student…It is SO not worth it, rather be laughed at and get your friends back home safely and do so without a criminal record…
If I fell under the group pressure and had a few drinks, that could have been me on that Friday night and my plans and studies would have been out of the window.
You don’t need booze to have fun, I have generated great respect from my friends now by being sober and the best part is, I can remember everything the day after!
Be safe!
