My sister in-law was killed in a drink-driving car accident on the 14th June 2003 (8 years ago) in Grahamstown. She had just finished her final 3rd year varsity exams and was out celebrating with her friends. She and her boy friend got into the car and headed off for munchies at the BP garage (opposite the Spar in G-Town). After a heated exchange between the boyfriend (Joe) and some other local Grahamstown guys, Joe jumped into the car with my sister in-law and sped off up the road towards settlers hospital where he lost control of the vehicle and drove into a tree …. KILLING his passenger (my sister in-law).
He sustained minor injuries and admitted to being under the influence!
Sadly – the court case ensued and the deceased’s family did not press charges, however, they did request that Joe commit to making other students aware of the dangers of drinking and driving!

This is so sad! Another young life lost unnecessarily thro too much alcohol. Please honor her memory by sending us a tribute and photo to http://www.sadd.org.za. This is to show she is not just a statistic, but was a loved person who is still missed today.Faces and stories behind the statistics makes people sit up and think.
