Roadblock

A friend and her boyfriend were out drinking one night.  On their way home they noticed a roadblock of some sort and, desperate to escape being caught for drunk driving, the boyfriend stupidly switched off his car lights and tried to make his getaway down a side street.  Unfortunately, the police noticed them and gave chase.  In the ensuing dash for freedom, in the dead of night and without any headlights to guide them, they smashed into a parked car at high speed.  My friend flew headlong through the front windscreen, cutting her jugular vein and bleeding to death in minutes.  Her boyfriend was found guilty of culpable homicide and given a fine.  I have no doubt she would still be alive today if the pair had not been so drunk that they made irrational decisions.  The real tragedy was that her parents never recovered from her death and for them, their lives ended with hers.  She was their only child. – Enid, 42
