No Regret Friday

Era Dempers

A couple of years ago me and a new girlfriend decided on a night out. We did a bit of bar hopping and obviously had too much to drink, way too much! I will never forget that night, not because of the fun we had, but the tragedy.

At around one o’clock in the morning we decided to go home, she asked me to drive because she could not see clearly in the mist, so I did. I admit that I was too drunk to drive, but I didn’t care, so I took the wheel. It’s an open road, and I was driving a fast car, so speeding was quite cool!….or so I thougt. She pleaded with me too slow down, and after a while I did, but whilst I was talking to her I did not watch the road, and was still moving at a high speed.

When I looked up, it was too late, I hit the curb on the left and swung to the right straight into a barrier. Something knocked me unconscious and when I woke up she was no longer in the passenger seat and the windscreen was out. I got out the car and ran around looking for her, only to find her about ten metres away from the car, motionless, covered in blood.

I will never forget, and always regret. Ever since that night I will neither drive under the influence of alcohol, nor get in a car with a drunken driver, and always wear my seatbelt.
