No Regret Friday

Caitlin Hay-Buchanan

In my matric year, when all my friends and I were finally of the legal drinking age, we went out to a Durban nightclub to celebrate trials being over.  The last thing I remember is getting into the car to go home with our friends and our designated sober driver.  The next thing I know, my best friend has dragged me out of the car with blood streaming down her face and screaming at the state my body is in. A drunk driver had jumped a red robot and slammed into our car, jamming us into the cement barriers.  I thank God every day that no one died, but the insane fear and the toll an accident like that takes on you emotionally, is horrible.  The drunk driver got away ‘scott free’ because the police didn’t have a breathaliser on them, so there was no proof.  People who think that they can drive drunk – even if its just you in the car – are selfish, revolting people. Drinking and driving is NEVER a good idea, and it could ruin your life, or an entire families life.  Be safe, and think about which you would regret more – drunken driving, or a sober night out?  It’s not a hard decision to make.
